Inside Arts: Creativity Cabin sparks the artist inside

A locally-owned paint your own pottery studio in Estes Park offers a great way to have fun with friends and family while creating something lasting.

It’s a place to paint ceramics (pre-molded bisque) with glaze for firing or acrylic paints that don’t go in the kiln.

“We create community and feed people’s souls,” said owner Patti Aldridge. “We help people find their inner creator and just enjoy themselves and spend time together.”

Aldridge moved to Estes Park from Austin, Texas, in 2017 and opened Creativity Cabin near the end of 2019.

“We opened five months before the start of the pandemic,” shenoted. “Since COVID has kind of settled down a little bit, it’s great.”

Classes range from $15 to $38. For walk-in painting the Creativity Cabin sells items that are $8 to $10 all the way up to $89 Christmas trees. Items range from plates and cups to seasonal items and even some canvas bags.

“We have mostly ceramics,” Aldridge noted. “We do have some canvas bags and canvases that people can paint acrylic paint on. We have glazes that go in the kiln and we have acrylic paint that can be taken the same day it dries right away. Kiln firing takes about three days for us to get it back out. We have some bigger items and so we don’t fast fire here, so it takes a little bit.”

Aldridge used to visit Estes Park as a tourist.

“We used to vacation up here every summer and kind of ran out of things to do with our kids as they were growing up,” she said. “We have lots of great outdoor activities in Estes Park, but we don’t have a lot of rainy day activities. The other really nice thing about this is all ages can paint. When there is a family or a group with a large age span, it’s a perfect activity for them to do together. Five-year-olds can paint and 85-year-olds can paint.”

Creativity Cabin is located at 342 W Riverside Dr. in Piccadilly Square. To read more about their classes or book a reservation, log on to the website at createinestes.com.

Currently, the Creativity Cabin is open for walk-ins Thursday through Saturday. In the summer, the business is open for walk-ins Monday through Saturday.
