How to Celebrate Valentine's Day in a Pandemic

Wondering how to celebrate Valentine's Day in a pandemic? These Livingston County businesses have ideas.

Couples have had to stretch their creativity during the pandemic for stay-at-home date nights and other things to do.

And now Valentine's Day is here.

If you're looking for ideas for this weekend, or to pocket for later, here is some advice from Livingston County business owners on how to make the day romantic and special, whether you plan to venture out or stay home.

Make something together

The Ceramics Studio, Etc. owner Helen Agius-Andreae has seen a shift in customers during the pandemic. More couples have been making a date out of painting pottery and creating fused glass pieces together.

"I think people are bored and want to go out but there isn't a lot to do," Agius-Andreae said.

The studio in Genoa Township offers a wide variety of items to paint, including romantic items such as heart-shaped dishes, ring boxes, stemless wineglasses and '"love" plaques.

"We've had a lot of men come in and say, 'it's my turn to plan date night.' You can have the experience of painting together and then you have a keepsake to take with you, so it's a win-win."

The studio books reservations Wednesdays through Sundays.

It is also hosting two adults-only Valentine's Day date nights, 7:30-11 p.m. Friday and Saturday. The studio is booked for Saturday night, but reservations were still available for Friday night as of Tuesday morning.

"We also have a to-go option, where they can pick it up to paint at home. They choose what colors they want and let us know if they need brushes. We'll fire it and they can pick it up when it's ready," Agius-Andreae said.

To-go kits can be ordered online or purchased at the studio.
